We’ve all seen the lists, we’ve all thought, “I should really read that someday,” but for all of us, there are still books on “The List” that we haven’t actually gotten around to reading. Even though we know they’re fabulous. Even though we know that we’ll like them. Or that we’ll learn from them. Or just that they’re supposed to be worthy. We just … haven’t gotten around to them yet.I'm going to choose my top five from Jezebel's 75 Books Every Woman Should Read. I read this list (and copy/pasted it into my files) back in Sept with the intention of "Someday I'll look it over and pick some to read... someday"; today is the perfect day!
What’s the best book that YOU haven’t read yet?
Here is my top 5 list- in no particular oder:
- The House of Mirth - Edith Wharton
- The Shipping News - E. Annie Proulx
- Middlemarch - George Elliot
- A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Betty Smith
- Three Junes - Julia Glass
So leave a comment below and I will read the most voted for book!

I have only read Middlemarch and The House of Mirth from your list and I loved them both. Thank you for the 75 books link - I love lists and I hadn't seen that one before!
I hadn't seen that list before. Thanks for the link.
I loved The House of Mirth. Such a sad but powerful story.
I've always wanted to read the last three as well
I've always wanted to read House of Mirth!
For reading with your daughter I vote for A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, cause I loved it when I was her age. My second choice is The Shipping News, which I also consider a top read.
I've had Three Junes on my list for a couple of years now and I'm determined to get to it this year. I tried The House of Mirth in high school but never finished it - I think that's what put me off Edith Wharton for so many years.
I've only read A Tree Grows In Brooklyn but I loved it.
Thanks for visiting my blog! I am going to give Dickens a go, I have had many encouraging comments. I too have the House of Mirth sitting on my book shelf but have never really got round to reading it and it is supposed to be really good.
I vote for A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - that's on my list too.
I have House of Mirth and will be reading it soon. Haven't read any of the others. So my vote goes for Mirth. Thanks for visiting on BTT.
